Jeff Smith
Email: smithj@mwzb.comBiography:
My exposure to trademarks and copyrights first started on my annual family trips to Disney World for legal conferences. My father was an attorney in a large, diversified firm and many of my summers were spent working at his firm in the office service department. I obtained a bachelor's degree in humanities from FSU in 1984 and proceeded to teach elementary school in Tampa, Florida. I always had an interest in sports and entertainment law and decided to go to law school. During law school at FSU, I began to develop an interest in Intellectual Property law. Upon graduation, I moved to the DC area in 1990 and secure a job as a trademark examining attorney with the USPTO. My seven years as an examiner/trainer gave me invaluable knowledge and insight on the working of this agency and the substantive area of the law. In 1997, I opened a law firm with current law partner Jeff Cohen and gained experience from a business and legal perspective. A great opportunity presented itself in 2001 and we joined the firm of MWZB. My leisure time is spent playing tennis, traveling abroad, attending sporting events and visiting family and friends in Florida.
