Harry Shubin
Email: shubin@mwzb.comBiography:
The combination of law and science has long interested me, and well before I received my Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Virginia in 1980 I knew that I would go into a field blending legal skills and a technical background. After receiving my JD from the College of William and Mary in 1983, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn the procedural aspects of patent law from the agency side, working as an Examiner in the area of fine chemicals from 1983 to 1985. That experience, as well as continuing participation in focus groups meeting on a regular basis with PTO officials, aids me to this day in interacting with Examiners and thus in obtaining strong yet broad coverage of an invention. Since leaving the PTO in 1985, I have been with Millen, White, Zelano & Branigan, P.C., involved in prosecuting patent applications and in preparing validity and infringement opinions in a wide variety of technologies, from pharmaceuticals to petroleum refining to polymers. I'm sometimes accused of avoiding technology because of my hobby of collecting antiques, but in fact it's my association with cutting edge technology which has influenced my collecting - the every day technology of the past: fountain pens, mechanical wristwatches and dial telephones.
