Diana Hamlet-Cox, Ph.D., Partner at Millen, White, Zelano & Branigan, P.C., practices patent law for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, including genomics, antibody technologies and other therapeutic molecule technologies. Dr. Hamlet-Cox is a registered U.S. Patent Attorney.
Dr. Hamlet-Cox has extensive experience in a broad range of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, evaluating patentability issues, evaluating freedom to operate issues, designing patent applications and US and world-wide prosecution strategies to maximize the value of intellectual property assets and achieve business objectives, undertaking IP-related technology analysis and evaluation, counseling on due diligence and strategic business planning involving IP, and technology assessment.
Dr. Hamlet-Cox's practice focuses on technologically complex matters, particularly relating to biotechnology and pharmaceutical agents, including antibody technologies, including antibody-drug conjugate toxin technologies; transgenic animals; molecular biology, biological chemistry, genomics, proteomics, expression profiling, drug discovery; steroid chemistry; and processes and formulations.
Prior to rejoining Millen, White, Zelano & Branigan as a Partner, Dr. Hamlet-Cox was Vice President and head of the Intellectual Property Department for Medarex, Inc., an antibody and transgenics biotechnology company that was acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2009. Previously, she was Vice President of Intellectual Property at Incyte Corp., where she managed the largest privately-held gene patent portfolio, as well as a microarray technology portofolio. Dr Hamlet-Cox spent the first 11 years of her legal career as a patent agent and associate at Millen, White, Zelano & Branigan. She received her J.D. from George Mason University School of Law, in the Patent Specialty Track, in 1992. Dr. Hamlet-Cox carried out her doctoral research in the Biological Chemistry Dept. at the UCLA Medical School, on histone protein structure and function. She received her Ph.D. in 1985, and her B.S. in Biology from Yale University in 1975.
