Mr. Heaney works in the areas of patent drafting, patent prosecution, infringement and validity opinions and litigation. Mr. Heaney has also lectured regularly on chemical patent law. He received a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University (summa cum laude; Tau Beta Pi) in 1979 and, thereafter, a JD from George Washington University (with high honors; Order of the Coif) in 1989. Prior to joining the firm in 1986, he was an Examiner in the United States Patent and Trademark Office in the chemical reactor art from 1983 to 1986. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, Intellectual Property Owners Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Mr. Heaney is a registered patent attorney, is admitted to practice before the courts of Virginia and the District of Columbia.
