Mr. Zelano is heavily involved with patent issues in the areas of chemistry and biotechnology. He has extensive experience in all phases of patent application strategy, drafting and prosecution, interferences, licensing and due diligence studies as well as infringement and validity counseling. He was a seminar lecturer on chemical patent practice with Patent Resources Group, Inc. for many years. He is currently an adjunct professor at George Mason University School of Law, teaching Chemical and Biotech Patent Law. He was Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Zelano has a B.S. degree (summa cum laude) in Chemistry from Providence College and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Brown University. He obtained a JD from Georgetown University. He was a scientist/specialist at McDonnell Douglass Astronautics Corporation and a National Academy of Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Naval Research Laboratory. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Federal Circuit Bar Association and the American Bar Association and is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the courts of Virginia and the District of Columbia, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
